Update on Library’s Phased Reopening - October 8, 2020
Staff at the Westwood Public Library have been contacted recently by many residents with a shared question, asking "when will the Library reopen?"
At this time, the Library and the Town of Westwood are moving forward with a series of phased reopening measures to ensure that both our team members and users adhere to public health guidelines.
Library Curbside Pick-Ups are running smoothly, with evening and Saturday hours now available. The Library’s Community Room and Gallery have been transformed as a new “Limited Express Browsing” area. Individuals or family groups (up to four members in the group) can book timed appointments to personally visit the library and browse curated adult, teen and children’s materials. Limited Express Browsing appointments can be made online https://www.westwoodlibrary.org/calendar or by calling Library Staff directly at 781-320-1081. We anticipate adding extended browsing hours over the next several weeks, including Tuesday and Thursday mornings for seniors and others who may be immune-compromised.
From there, we hope to extend and expand access to additional services and resources; including the ability of visitors to browse more complete collections, and opportunities for individual study and small group meetings.
We are aware that there are many individuals who are looking for options for remote study or remote working, and access to computers and printing. We are working in tandem with the schools and the town to determine best practices and are working to implement solutions.
At this time, I cannot guarantee when this will take place, but want to assure you that we are looking at many different options and how those options/uses fit with the state health guidelines that have been provided. We are committed to providing all patrons with the opportunity to utilize the public library spaces, resources, and services and doing so in a fair and equitable manner. I do hope that we will be able to share more specifics in the coming weeks as our phased reopening plans move forward to include opportunities to reserve study spaces for individuals and family groups while maintaining the safety and security of both the staff and the public.
